NOW Magnesium Malate

Helps in the development and maintenance of bones and teeth. Helps in tissue formation. Helps to maintain proper muscle function. Magnesium has a broad role in maintaining overall health. Magnesium malate is popular among those who suffer from fibromyalgia, as it delivers both malic acid and magnesium in one dose.

The daily magnesium requirement for healthy adults has not been clearly established. The recommended daily allowance in Canada for adults is 250 mg. Magnesium is a mineral that is critical for energy production and metabolism, muscle contraction, nerve impulse transmission and bone mineralization. Magnesium is the second most abundant intracellular cation (positively charged ion) in the human body and is involved in more than 300 enzymatic reactions. Among the reactions catalyzed by these enzymes are fatty acid synthesis, protein synthesis and glucose metabolism. NOW Magnesium is bound directly to malic acid (a natural fruit acid), and provides an optimum dose of each of these nutrients. Malate is an important Krebs Cycle intermediate, indicating that it is an important molecule in the production of cellular energy derived from carbohydrates. One small study reported a reduction in pain symptoms for those suffering from fibromyalgia after taking magnesium malate, but further research is required.
